Marvel Scraps Old ‘X-Men’ Look, Will Replace Beloved Team: Report – Inside the Magic

As Tony Stark, famously known as Iron Man, made a sacrificial move to vanquish Thanos (portrayed by Josh Brolin), and Chris Evans bade adieu to his portrayal of Steve Rogers/Captain America, passing on the mantle of Captain America, a significant opportunity has arisen for superhero groups like the Fantastic Four and X-Men to assume pivotal roles within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
As the Multiverse expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to new dimensions, characters from alternate universes like the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and the Fox X-Men Universe, previously under 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios under The Walt Disney Company), are poised to join the fray. This includes figures like Deadpool/Wade Wilson (the self-proclaimed “Marvel Jesus”) portrayed by Ryan Reynolds and Wolverine/Logan/James Howlett-centric, famously played by Hugh Jackman, in the much-anticipated film Deadpool & Wolverine, also known as Deadpool 3.

With the MCU seeing the beloved X-Men join in on the action, Disney has been keen to recenter the mutant-centric story in audiences” minds — and one of those main ways has been to bring back iconic, nostalgic X-Men franchises like the 1990s-era X-Men: The Animated Series (1992–1997), with a direct continuation on Disney+ (Disney Plus), X-Men ’97.
How Are the X-Men Getting Replaced?
Picking up from the narrative of X-Men: The Animated Series, the X-Men face fresh trials following the departure of their leader, Professor X. The series introduces a revamped ensemble, featuring Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, and Cal Dodd reprising his role as Wolverine. Other familiar voices include Alison Sealy-Smith as Ororo Munroe/Storm, Lenore Zann as Rogue, and Matthew Waterson as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto.
The X-Men team is reportedly slated to get a total makeover in X-Men “97, according to known Hollywood and Marvel insider Can We Get Some Toast. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Marvel scooper teased that the current roster of X-Men in X-Men “97 would be getting entirely new looks and suits come the show”s end:

Larry Houston, producer and director of X-Men: The Animated Series, and executive producer Brad Winderbaum presented a pitch for Marvel Studios to officially revive the cherished series with brand-new episodes slated for release in 2024. Jake Castorena served as supervising director, and Charley Feldman as supervise producer. Furthermore, Houston and the original series” showrunners, Eric and Julia Lewald, were consultants for the revival.
Encountering an unexpected setback with the departure of head writer, Beau DeMayo, a seasoned Marvel Studios professional who contributed to projects like Moon Knight (2021) and the ongoing Blade movie script, just a week prior to the much-awaited premiere of the show, alongside significant behind-the-scenes alterations have taken place within the series, reminiscent of the developments seen in the second season of Loki in 2023 and the forthcoming Daredevil: Born Again.
Luckily, the series has so far released to a stellar reception from fans and critics alike, so Season One, at least, does not appear to be a bust. Fans of the series might understandably be a little more worried for a possible Season Two, however.

Additionally, members of the Hellfire Club, including Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw, will appear, alongside Bolivar Trask, voiced by Gavin Hammon.
