Amidst the myriad attractions that are located in Magic Kingdom, there exists a beloved ride that has long held a special place in the hearts of Disney aficionados. In a surprising turn of events, fervent fans of Walt Disney World Resort have united in a call for the closure of one of the Magic Kingdom”s most iconic attractions, the Tomorrowland Speedway. This outcry comes as a shock to many, as the attraction has long been a staple of the park since its opening in 1971, delighting generations of visitors with its nostalgic charm and exhilarating race tracks.

The chorus of demands for the permanent closure of the Tomorrowland Speedway is spearheaded by numerous passionate Disney enthusiasts who argue that the time has come for this beloved ride to bid farewell. Among those leading the charge is Peter Sciretta, who emphatically declared, “Bulldoze it,” echoing the sentiments of countless others who share his sentiment.

“Completely replaced is the only answer,” remarked @TarotwithAndrew, succinctly encapsulating the prevailing sentiment among disillusioned fans. Similarly, @wallin_ballin minced no words, stating, “It’s always felt like a six flags attraction, rip it out and build something good,” reflecting a desire for an upgrade that befits Disney”s reputation for innovation and excellence.

Critics of the Tomorrowland Speedway have not been shy in voicing their grievances, with concerns ranging from environmental impact to “outdated technology.” Alexander Hemp highlighted the issue of carbon monoxide fumes emanating from the attraction.

“They should all have been electric years ago. Personally I wouldn’t miss all the carbon monoxide fumes standing in the queue,” he said.

However, amidst the clamor for closure, dissenting voices have emerged, advocating for the preservation of the Tomorrowland Speedway in its current form. Daniel Mueller cautioned against hastily discarding the ride, pointing out the challenge of replicating its unique experience with an electric version. “Until I see an electric version that can maintain the look, feel, speed, functionality of the original, just keep it,” Mueller urged, underscoring the importance of preserving the essence of the beloved attraction.

Moreover, practical considerations have been raised regarding the feasibility of transitioning to an all-electric fleet. Kyle Donoghue raised valid concerns about the logistical challenges and financial implications associated with such a transition, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that considers both environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.

“You still going to need to keep gas. The all-electric would require too many cars for a functional ride. They would take way too long to charge them. The battery alone in them you wouldn”t make it back until 25 years. Disney would never invest that way,” he said.

As the debate over the fate of the Tomorrowland Speedway rages on, Disney World finds itself at a crossroads, forced to reconcile the competing demands of tradition and progress. Whether the iconic race tracks will continue to rev their engines or succumb to the winds of change remains to be seen.

The Tomorrowland Speedway is located inside Tomorrowland, beside Fantasyland. Other attractions in the Disney World theme park land include Space Mountain, TRON Lightcycle / Run, Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, Walt Disney”s Carousel of Progress, Buzz Lightyear”s Space Ranger Spin, and Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor.

While many fans are calling for the attraction to cease operations, the truth is that Walt Disney World Resort has no plans in the immediate future to replace the attraction. Though Tomorrowland Speedway could close down in the future, Disney World is full-steam-ahead on refurbishments inside Frontierland currently, with Tiana”s Bayou Adventure”s opening looming large. Outside of Magic Kingdom, Disney World is also focusing on a major expansion to Disney”s Animal Kingdom, finishing up construction at EPCOT after a lengthy building time and maintaining Disney”s Hollywood Studios as the park undergoes reported problems with crowding.
