At many of the Disney parks around the world, guests can blast off to a galaxy far, far away through Star Tours. Right now, the attraction is located in Walt Disney World (Disney”s Hollywood Studios), Disneyland (Disneyland Park), Disneyland Paris (Disneyland Paris Park), and Tokyo Disneyland.

As we shared earlier today, a new version of the attraction will be debuting on April 5.

As noted by Disney, “Hold on tight as urgent transmissions from Ahsoka Tano, Cassian Andor, the Mandalorian and Grogu may soon be part of your next Starspeeder flight.

Starting April 5, 2024, embark on exciting new Star Wars adventures featuring characters and locations from some of your favorite Disney+ series. With these additions, you’ll have the opportunity to experience one of more than 250 storyline variations, including a visit to the planet Peridea from Ahsoka. Because the many story twists are random, you never know where you’ll go or who you may encounter along the way!”

While many have been excited for the news of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka joining in on the Star Tours fun, one detail has been missed by many, which is the highlight that the ride will have 250 storyline variations, meaning 250 new versions of the ride, making it the most re-rideable attraction at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and beyond!

Knowing that a guest can ride Star Tours 249 times and still have the chance to get a new look at the ride on ride 250 is a very exciting aspect of this new upgrade that Star Wars fans will certainly love — especially when the ride is at a low wait.

Star Tours emerged from a partnership between Walt Disney Imagineering and George Lucas”s Lucasfilm, debuting at Disneyland Park on January 9, 1987. It represented a significant advancement in theme park technology, blending state-of-the-art innovation with Disney”s signature immersive storytelling.

Inspiration for Star Tours sprang from the fruitful collaboration between Disney and Lucasfilm within the Star Wars universe. Imagineers at Disney sought to craft an attraction that would immerse visitors in the thrills and wonders of Star Wars, allowing them to embark on their own space-faring adventures. With George Lucas”s enthusiastic support, the concept took shape, culminating in a groundbreaking attraction that captured the essence of the beloved sci-fi franchise.

Star Tours takes guests on a thrilling journey through space aboard a fictional starship known as a Starspeeder 1000. The attraction uses a sophisticated motion simulator system to simulate the sensation of flying through space, complete with twists, turns, and exhilarating encounters with iconic Star Wars characters and locations.

The original version of Star Tours featured a single-ride experience called the “Original Trilogy” tour, which took guests on a voyage to various planets from the original Star Wars trilogy.

The attraction”s success led to the development of additional versions and updates over the years, including new destinations, characters, and storylines inspired by the Star Wars prequel and sequel trilogies, meaning guests can see a whole range of characters on Star Tours, from Darth Vader to Rey Skywalker.

In 2011, Disney introduced Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, an updated version of the attraction featuring 3D imagery and randomized ride sequences, offering guests a different experience with each ride.

Now, Star Tours lives in a theme park with Star Wars: Galaxy”s Edge at Disney World and Disneyland; however, Disneyland Paris is quite different. At Disneyland Paris, the ride is in Discoveryland, which is equivalent to the Tomorrowland of Magic Kingdom, here you can find Hyper Space Mountain and more, but the park does not have a dedicated Star Wars land.

Its neighboring park, Walt Disney Studios Park, was meant to have its very own Star Wars expansion, however, that upgrade was cut from the mega $2 billion budget that Bob Iger allocated to the European park before the pandemic. Instead, the money went to the refurbishment of The Disneyland Hotel, the Frozen land, which was planned, but cut out the Toy Story Playland and Star Wars expansions — even though the concept art on the construction walls in the park are still promoting it.

While a Star Wars: Galaxy”s Edge may be in the far far future of Disneyland Paris, at least this new Star Tours change will expand the Star Wars storytelling within the theme park.
