Known as “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” Walt Disney World Resort welcomes millions of guests each and every year. With so many Disney World guests heading to Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney”s Hollywood Studios, and Disney”s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, lines can become long from time to time. If you”ve visited Disney World, you know that wait times can fluctuate.

Rides like Remy”s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After, Slinky Dog Dash, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Mickey & Minnie”s Runaway Railway, Avatar Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Space Mountain can all accumulate major wait times from time to time. One of the ways that you can skip some of those lines is by purchasing Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane reservations.

Prices vary each day for Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane, depending on the crowds. To get started with Disney Genie, you can do the following:

  • Check the My Disney Experience app for pricing on the day of your park visit. Prices may vary by park and by date.
  • From the main menu in the My Disney Experience mobile app, select “Tip Board”.
  • From the Tip Board, select “Purchase for Today” next to the Disney Genie+ service icon.
  • Guests may purchase Disney Genie+ service by selecting the theme park they are planning to visit that day or selecting the “Multiple Parks” option if they are planning to visit more than one theme park and their ticket or pass includes the Park Hopper or Park Hopper Plus option that day.
  • Guests cannot purchase “Disney Genie+ Service for Multiple Parks” together with single-park Disney Genie+ service.
  • Guests may purchase different products for members of their travel party in a single transaction.

Disney Genie+ service Lightning Lane selections can only be made one at a time. You must redeem an existing Disney Genie+ service Lightning Lane selection or wait 2 hours—whichever comes first—before making another Lightning Lane entrance selection through the Disney Genie+ service. Please note: the 2-hour wait to make another selection begins when the park opens, even if you made your first booking at 7:00 a.m.

While Disney Genie+ has become one of the more popular ways for Disney park fans to beat the crowds and enjoy their favorite attractions, the system has still been met with its own share of controversy. The prices for the disputed service continue to rise, and Disney has even given warnings that guests may only be able to use the service for a few attractions during their stay, depending on how purchases for the day shake out. Many Disney World guests have expressed that they don”t enjoy having to be on their phones the entire day checking for Disney Genie+ reservations rather than just enjoying the park.

Despite some of the criticisms, Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort have continued to move forward with the services, and there is no plan to turn back anytime soon.

Some slick guests recently had found a loophole in the service that was intriguing, to say the least. Now, however, it seems that Disney World is cracking down on this “loophole” and making some changes to the service. This “loophole” comes into play for guests who had purchased tickets to a seasonal party– like Mickey”s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Mickey”s Very Merry Christmas Party, and Jollywood Nights— but did not have a park ticket for the day.

Previously, these guests could still purchase Disney Genie+ and use it during the hours that they were allowed to be in the park, but the party had not officially started. This means they could purchase Disney Genie+ or Lightning Lane selections in the morning, likely for the most popular attractions later in the day, as a way to beat the line and experience those popular attractions prior to the seasonal parties beginning. Disney really had never addressed this, and honestly, it was a smart way for guests coming to the parties to make the most of their time if they were willing to spend the extra money for Disney Genie+, likely just for one ride.

However, multiple reports now indicate that Disney is no longer allowing this to happen, and that guests without a park ticket are no longer able to purchase Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lanes. This has not been confirmed by Disney, but it is something to be aware of as you make your plans at Mickey”s Very Merry Christmas Party (Magic Kingdom) or Jollywood Nights (Disney”s Hollywood Studios) the rest of this month.
